Oxafence adds an active layer of protection that kills SARS-CoV-2 and Flu viruses on your mask all day while you are wearing it. It’s additional protection for those who need or want it most.

  • Oxafence adds an active protective coating on masks. Methylene Blue, the protective dye in Oxafence Mask Spray, uses the power of visible light to enable the ongoing generation of singlet oxygen. Singlet oxygen is around us all the time, exists in our cells, and is naturally present in many commonly consumed products. Singlet oxygen is also well-known for its antimicrobial powers and ability to inactivate bacteria and viruses. Singlet oxygen kills SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza by disrupting their genomes, proteins, and outer shells. The singlet oxygen generated by Oxafence rapidly and naturally changes back to the very oxygen that we breathe every day. This mode of pathogen inactivation is often called Antimicrobial Photodynamic Inactivation (aPDI). A similar method, Photodynamic Therapy (PDT), has been deployed clinically since the 1980s for various treatments.The antimicrobial Photodynamic Inactivation (aPDI) method is immediately active whenever visible light is present. Certain protective dyes (like Methylene Blue) provide quicker and stronger inactivation, however, when formulated for available lighting conditions. Oxafence begins working in visible light but is specifically optimised for normal, indoor lighting environments where mask use/wear is common (typically ~500-700 lux).

  • The “Development of Methods for Mask and N95 Decontamination” (DeMaND) Study demonstrated the efficacy of protective dyes (i.e., Methylene Blue) in decontaminating SARS-CoV-2 and other viruses from masks. This study, and many other follow-on studies, were conducted by a multinational COVID-19 Task Force of 52 researchers and 13 institutions. The WHO DeMaND Study also demonstrated that PPE pre-treated with Methylene Blue provided ongoing inactivation of coronaviruses. Singletto, Inc. (the manufacturer of Oxafence Mask Spray) has continued to develop data supporting and expanding upon the DeMaND findings under the leadership of Dr Thomas Lendvay (pediatric surgeon), Dr James Chen (neurosurgeon), and Dr Christopher Mores (virologist). Singletto’s SARS-CoV-2 inactivation studies are performed by U.S.- and Canadian-based Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) University-affiliated laboratories.
