All the Facts: ProGear+Oxafence Masks
-
Most masks only serve to trap or shield pathogens. The ProGear Antiviral Surgical Mask with Oxafence doesn’t just trap and shield, but it also kills viruses*.
-
The ProGear Antiviral Surgical Mask with Oxafence is made in the USA by Prestige Ameritech with premium materials and Oxafence Active Protection. Prestige Ameritech is the United States’ largest domestic surgical mask manufacturer. Oxafence provides an active layer of viral protection on the mask. Should viruses become present, Oxafence goes to work immediately and can inactivate 99% of tested viruses* by 5 minutes. Further, 99.9% inactivation is achieved by 15 minutes. The Oxafence Active Protection will continue inactivating viruses* for 24 hours^.The ProGear Antiviral* Surgical Mask with Oxafence was designed for enhanced comfort, fit, filtration, and breathability. The four-layer design provides Bacterial and Particulate Filtration Efficiency (BFE & PFE) well over 98% (BFE is 99.88 and PFE is 99.77) and Fluid Barrier Protection of 160 mm Hg, consistent with ASTM Level 3 standards. The patented Wave-Fit pre-bent nosepiece allows for easier donning. The fog- reducing nosepiece prevents glasses from fogging. And, the fit is snug and secure at the sides. possible for your customers.

The ProGear Antiviral Surgical Mask is manufactured with an Oxafence Active Protection treatment on the outer-facing layer. Methylene Blue, the protective dye in Oxafence technology, uses the power of visible light to enable the ongoing generation of singlet oxygen. Singlet oxygen is well-known for its antimicrobial powers and ability to inactivate bacteria and viruses. Singlet oxygen kills SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza by disrupting their genomes, proteins, and outer shells. This mode of pathogen inactivation is often called Antimicrobial Photodynamic Inactivation (aPDI). A similar method, Photodynamic Therapy (PDT), has been deployed clinically since the 1980s for various treatments.
-
The World Health Organization-led (WHO) “Development of Methods for Mask and N95 Decontamination” (DeMaND) Study demonstrated the efficacy of protective dyes (i.e., Methylene Blue) in decontaminating SARS-CoV-2 and other viruses from masks. This study, and many other follow-on studies, were conducted by a multinational COVID-1 Task Force of 52 researchers and 13 institutions. The WHO-led DeMaND Study also demonstrated that PPE pre-treated with Methylene Blue (the protective dye in Oxafence) provided ongoing inactivation of coronaviruses.
Singletto, Inc. (the manufacturer of Oxafence technology) has continued to develop data supporting and expanding upon the DeMaND findings under the leadership of Dr Thomas Lendvay (pediatric surgeon), Dr James Chen (neurosurgeon), and Dr Christopher Mores (virologist). Singletto’s SARS-CoV-2 inactivation studies are performed by U.S.- and Canadian-based Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) University-affiliated laboratories. Influenza A/H1N1 inactivation studies are performed by an independent U.S. ISO-accredited laboratory.
On the ProGear Antiviral Masks, Oxafence begins working immediately and, by 5 minutes, has inactivated 99% of tested viruses*, and by 15 minutes, has inactivated 99.9%. Testing is conducted in the ambient light commonly present in laboratories and normal indoor settings (~500-70 lux). Oxafence technology provides residual protection, even at 24 hours^.
-
The ProGear Antiviral Surgical Mask with Oxafence is intended for single use. Though the Oxafence technology provides an added layer of protection (inactivating viruses* on the mask’s surface), you should not reuse a mask intended for single use. Please continue to follow your local infection prevention and control guidelines.

Store in a cool, dry, dark location when not in use. Do not use if hypersensitive to Methylene Blue. If pregnant, nursing, or taking medications with known interaction with ingredients, consult your physician prior to use. Do not use in MRI. If an adverse reaction occurs, discontinue use and contact your physician while also notifying devices@health.govt.nz and info@PrestigeAmeritech.com.

No. The ProGear Antiviral Surgical Masks with Oxafence do not contain any natural rubber latex, fibreglass, carcinogens, or carcinogenic materials. Additionally, the Prestige Ameritech manufacturing facility is 100% latex-free.
-
The Oxafence technology includes special-grade Methylene Blue (a protective dye). Methylene Blue has been used as a textile dye since the 1870s and is considered an essential medicine by the World Health Organization. Methylene Blue has been commonly used for over one hundred years in the treatment of disease, whether to mark skin or organs for surgeries, treat skin wounds, or as an injected or swallowed medication to treat poisonings or diseases such as malaria and methemoglobinemia.

*The ProGear Antiviral Surgical Masks with Oxafence inactivate 99% of SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza A/H1N1 in 5 minutes and 99.9% in 15 minutes in ambient light (~500 lux), per in vitro testing. Any clinical event has not been evaluated. Oxafence starts working immediately in visible light but is specifically optimised for normal, indoor lighting environments where mask use/wear is common (typically ~500-700 lux).
Surgical masks, when worn properly, may reduce potential exposure to blood and bodily fluids. No surgical mask eliminates the risk of contracting any disease or infection. If pregnant, nursing, or hypersensitive to Methylene Blue, consult your physician prior to use. Do not use in MRI.
